The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

I grew up in Donora, a steel town in southwestern Pennsylvania. When I graduated from Donora High School in 1951, the family moved to Lemont, PA, so I could attend Penn State as a "townie." In addition to carrying a full schedule, I marched in the Blue Band, sang in the Chapel choir, and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. In 1955 I graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned a lieutenant in the Air Force. I worked for Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT, for one year, then reported for active duty and served three years as an interceptor controller assigned to North Concord AFS, VT, and then returned to P&W in project engineering. In 1973 I transferred to marketing of technology to the USAF in Dayton, OH. In 1981 I transferred to Hampton, VA, to market engines to the USAF. I retired from P&W in 1993 after 35 years of service and marketed engines for Rolls-Royce North America in Hampton, VA, for an additional 15 years. Over the years I have continued to support the university by serving in leadership roles for alumni chapters in the Connecticut Valley, Dayton OH, and Hampton Roads. I am a Life Member of the Alumni Association and continue to actively support academic recruiting. My deceased wife, Rose Marie Long from Maine, and I raised 5 children. I now live in Poquoson, VA, with my wife, Barbara Joan Lydle from Ohio.
